Free recycling events continue in Galway

WEEE Ireland (waste, electrical and electronic equipment), the compliance scheme for electrical waste and battery recycling, has held a series of WEEE Wagon collection events across Galway county throughout September, and these will continue into October. These smaller collection days supported by the Galway County Council allow people from towns and villages across the county to get rid of any household electrical equipment and batteries in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

Santa helps Westmeath power towards a green Christmas

Santa paid a very special visit to Mullingar Civic Offices on Wednesday to help the European Recycling Platform (ERP), launch its Christmas Appeal in Westmeath. ERP and Westmeath County Council invited children to visit Santa in his grotto and bring their used batteries and broken WEEE toys (Waste Electrical and Electronic) along for recycling. ERP is Ireland’s only pan European compliance scheme for electrical waste and battery recycling. On the day 278 children visited Santa and an incredible 36kg of WEEE toys was recycled and 46kg of batteries were recycled, which is the equivalent of over 1,840 AA batteries.
